Huskies Travel Softball

Dear Parents,

The Empire State Huskies South Fastpitch Team is excited to announce that we will be adding a 10u and 12u (local)tournament fastpitch softball team for the upcoming fall season. The Huskies Softball organization strives to provide players seeking that higher level of competition the opportunity to compete against some of the top select travel teams, while focusing on developing strong fundamentals, teamwork, and a sense of community.  Our view is players do not have to leave the community to join a private club and spend thousands of dollars to get a top tier softball experience to reach their maximum potential.

Tryouts for the 10u and 12u team will be held this July.  The selected players will start practicing in August 2019. This team is for those athletes interested in a competitive atmosphere that are focused on learning softball fundamentals and most importantly having fun while learning the game. Players selected will begin to practice in early August and will participate in 2-3 local tournaments this fall, continue to practice over the winter months then compete in 5-6 tournaments the following spring.

Below is the information that we have currently. We are presenting now so you can determine if this is something your child would like to pursue. If interested, please contact J.T.Wheatley, at  [email protected] to register. You will then be placed on an e-mail list and be kept up to date leading up to the tryouts. Tryout dates will be announced through email and our social media sites.

COMMITMENT:  Being on a youth travel tournament team requires a commitment of both athlete and parent/family. This will include a commitment of both time and money. The commitment to this team is more than to a recreational team and carries higher expectations. Players must also be committed to attending four to five weekend tournaments during the summer in which the team will be playing. Players and parents must also be committed to continuous skills development as the team will be competing against other high-level skilled teams.

COST:  The cost is not yet finalized and will not be until tryouts begin. Fees will be needed to cover costs related to entry fees of the tournaments, uniforms and league fees. Our coaches will be volunteering all their time to this team.

DATES:  Tournament dates and game schedules have yet to be determined. Tournament dates will be announced after the team is set which allows us to meet as a group to determine what works best for all involved. Outdoor practices will begin in August and our indoor practices will begin in November.  In addition, this is a great opportunity to start teaching softball concepts that the players will need to know as we approach tournament play. As summer approaches, practice days would Increase.

TRYOUTS:  There will be two tryout dates and players are encouraged to attend both. Those dates will be sent out as well will be posted to our social media sites.  Players will be evaluated on all softball skills: hitting, throwing, fielding, base running, as well as behavior and coach-ability. Players are encouraged to registered and follow us for more info to come.

COMPETITIVENESS:  This team will be competitive in nature and thus will be playing to win games. However, at this age there will be a significant emphasis placed on fun and skill development however there are no guarantees on playing time or positions played. Tournament playing time, batting order, fielding positions, etc will be at the sole discretion of coaches.

EXPECTATIONS:  Those players selected for the team will be expected to make practices and attend the tournaments. Please consider these expectations before attending the tryout. It is reasonable to expect that players might miss a couple of practices due to other family events/obligations, but they will need to inform the coaching staff. If a player is unable to attend a tournament, they must notify the coaches well in advance so coaches can ensure they can field a team.

FUTURE: This team will likely move forward each year with a similar format. Those that cannot make the commitment this year or do not make the team are welcome to try-out in subsequent years.

HOW TO SIGN-UP:  Those interested in having their child tryout for the team should email the information needed below to reserve a spot at tryouts. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Very Important!

We as a Huskies organization are encouraging all players to experience their local Little League to the fullest. We strive to be a supplement to LL and offer to help grow the individual leagues to maintain good skills with fundamentals and compete with some of the larger leagues during All Star Tournament. During the ages of 9-10 and 11-12 we want them to experience representing their hometowns.

We believe in building a strong program, keeping our players together in towns that will help build better teammates, friendships, and players as they play up through their high school years.

We look forward to working with the kids and having funlearning more about the game we love.

Sincerely,

J.T. Wheatley
